Intro
The Battle of Midway, fought in June 1942, was one of the largest naval battles in WW2. The United States Navy stopped Japan from capturing Midway Atoll, inflicting significant damage on Japan's fleet, including the loss of four aircraft carriers. This battle not only halted Japan’s expansion in the Pacific, but also shifted the balance of naval power in favor of the United States. The Battle is widely regarded to be the turning point of the Pacific War, as it marked the beginning of a series of successful offensives by the Allied forces that would eventually lead to Japan's defeat. This project will explore the Battle in its entirety as well as key factors that contributed to the United States' victory at Midway, analyzing things like the role of intelligence, doctrine, and the innovative tactics and individual heroics that played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the American forces.
